English certificates: preparing for TOEFL, IELTS and Cambridge in England

Language diplomas for study and work

Finding the right language diploma - we can help!

The main purpose of an English language certificate is to establish the candidate’s current language level. This can be a general language test, such as the TOEIC or the various Cambridge exams, or a test of specialist language, such as TOLES for lawyers. Exams that prepare for study and give access to English-speaking universities are the British IELTS or the American TOEFL test. For admission to an MBA programme, on the other hand, the two-part GMAT is required. The BULATS is aimed at working people in general. The most frequently offered exams are the Cambridge exams, IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC. The courses are geared to the test dates and are often scheduled so that the test can be taken straight afterwards.

Preparation courses for an English language certificate exam

For participants in the various preparation courses, the starting level is what matters first. Depending on the exam and language level, the course can last from two weeks to twelve weeks. The language schools test future candidates as soon as they register, in order to assess which certificate is suitable and whether the language level required for it can be reached. The courses often train the four language skills (listening, speaking, writing and reading) in a general part and, in a further part, prepare specifically for the exam using original exam papers from past tests. During the course, several practice tests are taken to keep track of the current language level. Many schools offer a long-stay discount, particularly for longer courses.
