Cambridge Certificate in England

Language diplomas based on the Cambridge system

The way to the right Cambridge Certificate

The so-called Cambridge Certificates are awarded by the University of Cambridge, or more precisely by the examination body “Cambridge University Press & Assessment” (formerly Cambridge English Language Assessment).

These English certificates are in demand both on the job market and at universities. The tests are relatively widespread and internationally recognised.

The Cambridge Certificates are offered at different levels. The language levels are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, which Cambridge helped to develop.

The most important Cambridge exams are for qualified English skills from language level B2:

In addition, there are special certificates such as Linguaskill for business English or the “Test of Legal English Skills” (TOLES) for legal fields of work.

The language schools in Great Britain prepare candidates for the exams in group lessons. The exams for the various certificates are all built on a similar four-part system; only the number of questions in the individual sections or the duration may vary slightly. All tests begin with a “Reading and Use of English” part of about 1.5 hours. In addition to reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary are tested here; this part comprises just over 50 questions. This is followed by the “Writing” part, in which two texts on different topics have to be written in about 1.5 hours. Third comes a 40-minute listening part, in which 30 questions are asked about various recordings. Last comes the speaking part of about 15 minutes, in which candidates show their communication skills with a partner.

Exam dates are offered throughout the year: in summer for all certificates, and outside the main season mainly for C1 Advanced. The exam dates are the same worldwide, as the exams are marked centrally in Cambridge. We also advise you to register early for a Cambridge Certificate.

Cambridge certificates are becoming increasingly popular - not least because they are recognised almost worldwide. In addition, unlike other exams such as the TOEFL, they do not expire but remain valid for life. An investment that pays off for the future!
