Boarding schools in the London area
Learning and living in the British capital
London offers a wide range of good boarding schools, both in the city centre and in the green suburbs of the capital.
Here is a selection of schools that we would recommend for a stay at a boarding school in London:
School in elegant South Kensington
Collingham College
Collingham College is located in the centre of London – in the heart of the elegant district of Kensington. The GCSE and sixth form college is not a traditional boarding school: students from abroad live with host families. Small study groups and a close relationship with the tutors allow for individual support and pastoral care. Students enjoy the advantages of life in a big city: visits to galleries and theatres are part of the teaching programme; cinemas, sport and music provide a varied range of leisure activities.

Creativity comes first
Frensham Heights
Frensham Heights is the school for creative minds. Alongside the regular subjects, the boarding school offers a wide range of art and creative options – from fine art, design and photography to theatre and dance, there is something for everyone. The school motto “Think, Create, Explore” sums up the philosophy of the school, which successfully strikes a balance between academic demands and individual self-determination. Frensham Heights values a tolerant community in which everyone is treated as an equal; there is no school uniform, and competition is limited to sport. It is a school where a little creative chaos is very much welcome.

Quaker school west of London
Leighton Park School
Leighton Park School is located on the edge of Reading, just under 70 km from London. Historic buildings and a very well-equipped, modern campus complement each other perfectly. The house system allows day and boarding school to be closely interlinked, as every student belongs to one of the five houses. The school was founded in 1890 and offers both A levels and the IB. Leighton Park is one of the English Quaker schools, which follow a very positive, humanist ideal of education.

Boarding school in a park in South London
Royal Russell School
The Royal Russel School was founded in 1853 by the Warehousemen, Clerks and Drapers in London as a foundation for orphans and has been under royal patronage ever since. Today the school is located on the outskirts of London, 3 km south of Croydon. The 40-hectare campus offers well-equipped classrooms and a wide range of sports facilities. Boarding life is shaped by the traditional house system and excellent tutorial support. The competition between the houses reaches its climax on Royal Russel Day, when trophies and prizes are awarded. Among other things, the school has a focus on art and drama, and computer science and media studies are also on the timetable.
