Boarding schools in the Oxford area
Learning in the cradle of knowledge
Oxford is a byword for scholarship and maintains this status to this day through the outstanding research of its famous university. The boarding schools of Oxford and the surrounding area enjoy an impressive reputation.
We have put together some of these boarding schools below:
School in the heart of Oxford
d'Overbroeck's
d’Overbroeck’s is not a typical boarding school. Spread across three sites in central Oxford, the school offers a grown-up, academically demanding learning atmosphere. The college strives to encourage independent thinking and learning. This is achieved, among other things, through small study groups and exceptionally engaging teaching. Music, art and drama are also among the school’s strengths. Boarders live in boarding houses close to the school and enjoy the many opportunities offered by the university city. d’Overbroeck’s runs its own summer school. Themed weeks focus, for example, on literature, business or music.

Learning in the green Cotswolds
Kingham Hill School
Kingham Hill School enjoys a very attractive setting among the hills of the Cotswolds, on the doorstep of Oxford. The boarding school was founded in 1886 by a Christian philanthropist, and the Christian ethos still plays an important role in boarding life today. The very large campus is in a rural location and offers a wide range of facilities, such as very fine sports facilities and a new science centre. The school’s boarding houses also impress with their high standard. A special feature of Kingham Hill: a number of American students also attend the boarding school as part of an American Studies programme.

Versatile boarding school north of Oxford
Sibford School
Sibford School is located in a village in rural Oxfordshire, only about 45 km from the university city. The school was founded in the 19th century and is one of the English Quaker schools, which follow a very positive, humanist ideal of education. The range of subjects is remarkably varied, and career-oriented programmes such as Countryside Management are also on the timetable. The spacious campus in the countryside offers many sporting options, and the creative subjects are not neglected either. The somewhat unusual options include textile design and a ceramics workshop.

IB school in Oxford
St. Clare's
St. Clare’s is one of the most established IB schools in England; the International Baccalaureate was introduced here as early as 1977. The school is located in one of the oldest strongholds of scholarship – the university city of Oxford. The boarding school is not a campus school but is spread across several attractive buildings close to the city centre. The library in particular is a real highlight. St. Clare’s offers a truly international education, with students from around fifty nations. The boarding houses are only a few minutes’ walk from the classrooms and, here too, are not just a place to sleep but a real home. St. Clare’s also offers language courses in the summer holidays for children and teenagers, as well as programmes with an academic and language focus for participants aged 18 and over.
