One term or a whole year?
When is the best time?
The school year in England, Scotland and Wales is divided into three terms. Each lasts roughly three months, with a week’s holiday in the middle (half term). The periods can be divided up as follows:
- Autumn term - September to Christmas
- Spring term - January to shortly before Easter
- Summer term - Easter to early July
As in most countries, the school year starts in autumn, which is why the “autumn term” is the best time to begin a stay abroad. For exactly this reason, however, demand is always very high, which means it makes sense to plan well in advance and apply for a place early. Alternatively, it is usually just as possible to move to an English boarding school in the spring or summer.
As Great Britain has a different school system and in some cases offers different subjects from those in Germany, it also makes sense to clarify the recognition of school achievements when choosing subjects. Here too, we take care of communication with the English boarding schools and advise you on the choice of subjects in line with the requirements of the head teacher and the authorities in Germany.
Unique teaching at boarding schools
A first-class education
English boarding schools are known to enjoy a high reputation, mainly because the boarding schools in England not only have high academic standards but also offer students unique opportunities to develop musically, athletically, technically or creatively.
The campus of most boarding schools is not only where the children live but also houses its own theatre and concert stages, recording studios, art studios and sports facilities that are available for the children to use. Classes at private schools are much smaller, which allows teachers to respond better to individual students. It is seen as part of the teaching remit to recognise individual abilities and talents and to help children make the most of them. It is precisely this excellent pastoral care that ensures that boarders can fully realise their potential.
Everyday life at a British boarding school also means that your child gets to know the language and culture of a new country and has the unique chance to make international friendships with classmates from all over the world.
Another indicator that a stay abroad at an English boarding school is worthwhile is the excellent A level results - A levels being the British equivalent of the German Abitur - at English boarding schools. British boarding schools are known far beyond the country’s borders for the highest standards of teaching and pastoral care, which are also reflected in the results of the final exams.
The English school system takes students seriously, develops their potential like nowhere else and prepares them for a successful academic and professional career.
We help you choose the right boarding school in England, tailored individually to your child’s academic goals, subject specialisations and hobbies, while keeping an eye on the school fees for you.
