Learning English in the metropolis

Language schools in London

People from all over the world come to the capital to improve their English – from school students to business people. The language schools could not be more international, which gives you the chance not only to learn English but also to make contacts with people from all kinds of regions of the world.

The schools are spread across the whole city and sometimes differ greatly in their quality standards.

Our selected language schools in London are checked by us regularly, and we are in close contact with their staff. In addition, our London partner schools are all verified by the British Council.

The schools are usually very centrally located, which has the advantage that language students are well connected for exploring central London or other parts of the city.

Lessons only ever take place on weekdays, and the weekends are free. For school students’ language courses, there is always the option of booking an activity programme for the weekends.

The number of lessons per week depends on the intensity of the course.

A special feature of the language schools in London is that the classes are very international.

Courses in London

London is of course known as a business city, so it is naturally also a good place for business English courses.

London is of course known above all as a business city, so it naturally makes sense to take a business English course there. However, our partner schools have a lot more to offer.

The language schools also offer language certificate courses (e.g. ‘Cambridge Exam’), job-related language courses (e.g. English for lawyers), educational leave (Bildungsurlaub), 50+ courses and many other individual combinations of courses with different creative or sporting focuses.

Accommodation and meals

There are various accommodation options for a language stay in London. Most language schools offer host family accommodation as standard. Because of the size of the city, you sometimes have to expect longer journeys, unfortunately. Alternatively, London schools also have their own residences. These are sometimes a little more expensive but tend to be closer to the language schools - some are even right in the heart of London. In a residence, you live together with other language students. Everyone has their own bedroom, but the kitchen, bathrooms and common rooms are usually shared. However, it is possible to book different room sizes and facilities - e.g. with a private bathroom or even as a small apartment.

A special feature of language schools in London is that accommodation is often offered in so-called “bed & breakfasts”. As the name suggests, you have a single or double room with breakfast included. The reality is that most language students are out and about so much that they usually eat out, which mostly makes half board unnecessary.

Why a language course in London?

Welcome to the English metropolis

London is not only the British capital but also the city in England with the most cultural sites and sights – including highlights such as St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye.

London is served by most airports in Europe and can be reached from Germany within 1-2 hours by plane – so it is ideal for a language course abroad.

The global metropolis is a wild mix of foreign cultures, an avant-garde art and music scene and the hustle and elegance of the financial world. Here, tradition meets the modern city.

Every district is like its own little universe.

To really experience London and its many-sided districts, you need more than just a short weekend trip. It is worth exploring London with a little more time. The advantage of a language course abroad in London is that you can get real insider tips about London from your host family or through contact with your language teachers.

Impressions of a language stay in London

Everyday life as a language student in London

Foodie paradise

There are countless options in London for a morning pick-me-up. Londoners not only love their tea but also appreciate a good coffee.

The coffee culture here is much stronger than in the rest of England.

Especially in Shoreditch, Hackney and Soho you will find many warehouse-style cafés, often with their own roasteries and home-made pastries. Just what you need on your way to your language course.

In culinary terms, London has pretty much everything you can imagine. Here you can enjoy international specialities just as in their countries of origin. London also keeps setting trends with excellent restaurants and its numerous street food markets.

Music hotspot

London has something to offer not only for “foodies” but also for music fans.

Every year, new artists come to London with the dream of a music career.

This means there is an enormous choice of concerts, “open stage” evenings and exceptionally good street musicians.

Music history has been written in London many times. Anyone who wants to explore the London music scene will not be disappointed. A great way to improve your English along the way.

Crazy about fashion

The global metropolis is also known above all for its “sense of fashion”.

Every district – every little universe – has its own style.

“Camden Market” is a goldmine for all fans of second-hand clothes. On Brick Lane, too, you will be almost overwhelmed by the many different vintage boutiques. The area in and around Brick Lane is known, among other things, for the impressive colourful graffiti on the facades.

The West, on the other hand, is a little more upmarket. Mayfair, for example, has London’s most expensive shopping street – lined with one designer shop after another.

Oxford Street offers a 1.5-kilometre shopping paradise with somewhat cheaper shops such as Topshop, Gap, River Island, H&M, Nike, Zara and HMV, as well as the iconic department stores Selfridges, John Lewis, House of Fraser and Marks and Spencer.

So be careful: there is a real danger of blowing all your money here.

Art is free

Anyone who wants to spend less money and see more can visit the city’s many museums and galleries – most museums in England are free.

For example the British Museum - for amateur historians, the Science Museum - where a real rocket is on display, or Tate Modern, which, besides its breathtaking works of art, has a viewing platform overlooking the Thames.

And you can learn English in a playful way at the same time.
